US president Donald Trump heaped praise on Japan's first female leader Sanae Takaichi and said the Asian nation will become a U.S. “ally at the strongest level” as he signed deals on rare earths and trade.

Japan and the United States agreed to a deal on new-generation nuclear power reactors and rare earths, as Tokyo seeks a way back to export markets for its nuclear technology and both look to reduce China's dominance over key electronic components.

President Donald Trump has landed in Japan, where he’ll meet new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for the first time.

TRUMP TRAVELS TO JAPAN: President Donald Trump has arrived in Japan, the second stop on his three-country Asia tour. He met with Emperor Naruhito and next will have a bilateral meeting with newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Takaichi said that the cherry trees would be gifted in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary next year and would bolster a new “golden age” of US-Japan relations.
