The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday handed President Donald Trump at least a temporary loss when the justices declined to hear an emergency appeal to fire the leader of an independent watchdog agency.

The Trump administration fired Hampton Dellinger, head of the Office of Special Counsel, who sued to overturn the decision.

A lawyer for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of fatally gunning down U.S. health insurance executive Brian Thompson in December, told a judge Friday that her client was illegally searched during his arrest and she would seek to exclude that evidence from his trial on state murder and terrorism charges.
