The Texas House voted 88-52 along party lines on Wednesday to pass the map that Republicans say will strengthen their slim majority in Washington ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Democrats
Facing opposition from Democrats who fled the state to stall the vote, Republicans hope the new maps will lead to more seats in Congress.
The measure is a response to the dozens of children who died at Camp Mystic and other youth camps in the Texas Hill Country during the July 4 flood.
