Utah's Mammoth seeks revenge against a struggling Sabres squad. Will history repeat, or can Buffalo break its losing streak?

Joel Hofer made 27 saves in his third NHL shutout and the St. Louis Blues got a short-handed goal and two assists from Mathieu Joseph to beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-0.

The Sabres practiced Monday with the same lines and defense pair from their game in Carolina, including rookies Isak Rosen and Noah Ostlund skating alongside Tage Thompson. Schmaltz leads Utah with 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 16 games -- totals that put him on pace to smash his career highs. Last season, he set personal bests with 43 assists and 63 points. His career high of 23 goals came in 2021-22.

Miles Wood scored twice, with his second goal coming 2:53 into overtime, to rally the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Kulich, 21, has been out since Nov. 1 with what Ruff initially described as fluid buildup in his ears that was making it difficult for him to play. Kulich had been operating as the Sabres’ top center in the absence of Josh Norris, who got injured in Buffalo’s first game of the season.

Svechnikov took a pass from K'Andre Miller and scored with a one-timer under the crossbar on the power play to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead at 4:34 of the second. Svechnikov has six points (four goals, two assists) in the past six games after being held without a point in his first eight games.
