Another round of storms, some of which could be strong to severe, will develop in northern and central Iowa Thursday evening. This morning’s round of storms was largely focused in northern Iowa and brought locally heavy rain and lightning to the state.

The potential for strong to severe storms now includes northern, central, and portions of southwest Iowa. Forecasters say thunderstorms are expected to fire up along a frontal boundary late this afternoon into this evening.

This will cause the needed destabilization of our atmosphere as a cold front approaches which will lead to the severe weather threat returning in the later afternoon and evening timeframe. Rain is likely in much of Iowa on Thursday, the National Weather Service said. Check the radar and forecast before you head out.
