Jamaica Is in Recovery Mode Now That Hurricane Melissa Has Moved Out of the Region
Rescuers and residents alike are shocked to see the true devastation in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa finally moved out of the region.
Melissa is now pushing towards the southern Bahamas/Turks and Caicos Islands as a category 2 hurricane. As a result, these islands will experience heavy rainfall, life threatening storm surge, strong rip currents and damaging wind gust. Hurricane/tropical storm warnings are also in effect for these islands as this storm approaches.
With peak sustained winds of 185 mph and even higher gusts, Hurricane Melissa is forecast to be the strongest storm ever to strike Jamaica.
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A brother and sister now living in Wausau, originally from Jamaica, are organizing a relief drive for those impacted by Hurricane Melissa. Janice Watson and Rayon Edwards are from the small island city of Retreat-- which has been severely impacted by the storm.
Melissa is now moving across the Atlantic Ocean as a category 2 hurricane, and is now pushing closely towards the Bermuda Island. The core of this storm will move just west of the island, but there is currently a hurricane warning is in effect for the island as heavy rainfall,
