Starting in 2026, Florida SNAP recipients will no longer be able to use federal assistance for certain "non-nutritious items like soda and candy."
SNAP recipients who work and earn more than $217.50 per week before taxes can still receive their benefits. Everyone else must submit documentation proving they volunteer or work 20 hours a week or lose their benefits after three months.
Gov. Mike Braun first announced these planned changes alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr. earlier in 2025. The new SNAP rules take effect Jan. 1.
