A Democratic political strategist described one of the surveys as "brutal" in a year when control of Congress is up for grabs.

During the same point in his term, Biden was at -13 points, and Trump was at -17 points during the same period in his first term. He is now averaging -22 points among the four polls during his second term.

Biden began his term with much higher approval than Trump ever enjoyed. In July of 2021, 58% of adults approved of his performance and 42% disapproved – a “net rating” of plus 16. (Net approval is the share of people who approve minus the share who disapprove.)

U.S. voters are split on whether President Donald Trump is handling his job better than his former President Joe Biden.

President Trump on Tuesday will address a joint session of Congress, where he will reflect on the first year of his second term in the White House, report on the state of the union and lay out his vision for what’s ahead.

Trump needed to use his State of the Union address to build confidence in what he's done so far. He succeeded.
