A Democratic political strategist described one of the surveys as "brutal" in a year when control of Congress is up for grabs.
During the same point in his term, Biden was at -13 points, and Trump was at -17 points during the same period in his first term. He is now averaging -22 points among the four polls during his second term.
Biden began his term with much higher approval than Trump ever enjoyed. In July of 2021, 58% of adults approved of his performance and 42% disapproved – a “net rating” of plus 16. (Net approval is the share of people who approve minus the share who disapprove.)
