Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis said he has undergone surgery in a bid to resolve a lingering pectoral injury. The 28-year-old aggravated the problem in his five-sets loss to Jack Draper in the Australian Open second round on January 15 and then retired injured midway through a doubles match while partnering Nick Kyrgios the following day.

Thanasi Kokkinakis has undergone surgery to try to correct the "mental and physical torture" he was suffering through a long-standing pectoral injury.

The tennis star was hampered by the issue during this year's Australian Open, where he bowed out of the men's singles draw in the second round. Kokkinakis still travelled to Stockholm in early February for Australia's Davis Cup tie with Sweden but did not play a match.
