Longtime Congressman Lloyd Doggett said he will not seek reelection if the new congressional maps are put into effect.

California’s Democratic-controlled Legislature opened debate on a package to revise the map and place it in front of voters for final approval in a special November election. The election is necessary because California Democrats must override their state’s voter-approved nonpartisan commission that drew the existing congressional map.

President Trump signaled Thursday that Missouri will be the next state to redraw its congressional lines to benefit the Republican Party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Michigan has independent redistricting and a divided state government that pretty much take it out of the fight over congressional maps before 2026.
