Will LSU naming dad of Notre Dame player AD impact Marcus Freeman’s status with the Irish?
LSU has moved on from its athletic director and named a Notre Dame players father as the interim, who could try to lure Marcus Freeman away.
“Coach Kelly gave me an opportunity to come here,” Freeman said, via Mike Beradino of the South Bend Tribune. “I’m always rooting for him. But it’s also the profession we’ve chosen. We know that can be a result of choosing this profession.” Freeman said he hated to see Kelly lose his job, knowing that it would affect families and players.
Freeman has been the coach of the Fighting Irish since he took over for, ironically, Kelly in 2022. He’s directed them to a 38-12 record in the three-and-a-half seasons since, including finishing runner up in last year’s College Football Playoff.
Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman gave a passionate response to Brian Kelly being fired from LSU mid-season.
The LSU Tigers decided to fire head coach Brian Kelly in his fourth season following a sluggish loss to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night, which dropped their record to 5-3 and pushed them outside the AP Top 25 for the first time this season.
It was the sixth straight win for Notre Dame (6-2) and the eighth straight loss for the injury-marred Eagles (1-8).
