A long-awaited project to improve accessibility and create new recreational opportunities in Southside Richmond took a major step forward today with the groundbreaking of the James River Branch Trail.

The Richmond Department of Public Works, in partnership with other departments, will accept input from the public about the James River Branch Trail Project during a meeting on Monday.

The James River Branch Rail-Trail was one of the planned stops on the tour and the hope is that Richmond would be selected and benefit from at least $180,000 in funding over a four-year period.
