The Cincinnati Bengals defense went young. Two rookie linebackers and a rookie edge rusher, all starting. A cast of unproven recent NFL Draft picks across the defensive line. Even the secondary, experienced by comparison, still has four starters on rookie deals.
The Bengals rank last in the NFL in scoring defense and total defense. Many of the rest of their numbers don't look much better.
CINCINNATI — Ja'Marr Chase had a blank face of disgust after the Bengals' 39-38 loss to the Jets, wasting another stellar outing by the Bengals' top healthy offensive player. Chase had 12 catches for 91 yards in the loss, which saw Cincinnati lose its third of four games since the start of last year when scoring 38-plus points.
