Hurricane Melissa, weakened to a Category 2 storm, was moving away from the Bahamas into the southwestern Atlantic Ocean early Thursday, after battering the Caribbean over the last few days.
Caribbean countries are reeling as Hurricane Melissa has left a trail of devastation and flooding in Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba. At least four people in Jamaica are confirmed dead and at least 20 people have died in Haiti flooding.
Category 5 Hurricane Melissa has made landfall already in Jamaica and Cuba, as one of the strongest hurricanes to ever make landfall.
Hurricane Melissa is currently a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph as it moves offshore of eastern Cuba into the southwestern Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center said.
