Paul Finebaum, a household name for Alabama sports fans after decades of work as a columnist, radio show host, and regular on the SEC Network and ESPN, is considering a run for Tuberville’s seat and said this week he would make a decision soon.

The SEC is often considered the best conference in college football. Currently, it has five teams ranked in the top 10 and nine in the top 20. The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide is viewed by many as a strong contender to win the conference, with ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) giving them a 57.2% chance of success.

As of Thursday Oct. 30, Simpson is tied with Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza for the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Alabama is on its second off week of the 2025 season before facing LSU at home Saturday, Nov. 8.
