At 4:53 a.m. on Thursday, Hakeem Jeffries took his place at the lectern on the House floor, bound by no time limit, and began reading letters from constituents in Republican districts who have expressed fear of President Donald Trump’s signature tax and spending bill becoming law.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) spoke for more than eight hours on July 3, breaking a House floor record, as he opposed Trump’s tax bill.

It's expected to face some issues, especially among fiscal hawks as the Senate version is projected to add roughly $1 trillion more to the deficit than what the House passed back in May. And that's not the only problem -- Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday evening that there might be an attendance problem in the House as a number of members were having problems getting back to Washington with storms wreaking havoc on air travel.
