One late deadline in Washington translates into empty tables for Californians by the millions. Going into the third fortnight of the shutdown of the central government, officials are warning November benefits of the CalFresh program the California version of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program,
“Today, Governor Newsom deployed the California National Guard and California Service Corps on a humanitarian mission to protect Californian families and kids from going hungry,” said GO-SERVE Director and California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday. “At a time when DC is shut down, we are stepping up.”
California is the latest state to sound the alarm as over five million SNAP recipients are at risk of not receiving benefits beginning as soon as November 1, as Capitol Hill remains at a standstill.
Millions of Americans will lose critical nutrition and food benefits by the end of the week if the federal government shutdown continues.
