The Yankees broke a tie game in the top of the ninth by scoring four runs on only one hit, lifting them to an 8-4 win over the Cardinals that finished off a sweep at Busch Stadium. With the help of two errors by Cardinals second baseman Thomas Saggese, the Yankees (67-57) rallied for their fifth win in the past six games.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Cardinals third baseman Nolan Gorman hammered a home run that landed in the crowd behind the right field wall. A Yankees fan was able to come up with the ball, and then he was told by a fellow Yankees fan that a young Cardinals fan sitting a few rows in front of them was celebrating his 10th birthday.
Two errors in the ninth inning Sunday led to an 8-4 loss and continued a five-game losing streak that has tested the Cardinals' shorthanded lineup, inexperienced roster.
