Had some great views of outflow boundaries this afternoon on radar. An outflow boundary separates rain cooled air from the surrounding warmer air. Rain cools the environment under the storm that then creates localized higher pressure relative to the surrounding environment. Air flows from high pressure to low pressure - so the rain cooled air begins spreading outward from underneath the storm.
