Former chairman of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) Professor Errol Miller is calling for the repeal of the "absurd, unworkable, impractical" law that subsumed the political ombudsman functions into the commission. He says it's the "worst" electoral since Independence. Professor Miller was delivering the Jamaica Teachers' Association 60th anniversary lecture on April 3. He was the first chairman of the ECJ, serving from 2006 to 2012. He chaired the predecessor Electoral Advisory Committ

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) says its Political Ombudsman unit has been operational since February 2024 and is actively receiving complaints from the public. In a statement, the ECJ said it has established a dedicated unit within its office to manage the responsibilities of the Political Ombudsman. These include coordinating activities and implementing mechanisms for accepting, processing and responding to complaints about breaches of the political code of conduct. 🔗 Click the link
