This incredible survival belongs to the Yale university art gallery, but it was briefly in London for the Roman soldiers exhibition in 2024 when I made this video. It is made of wood covered in leather, and was preserved in the dry atmosphere of the Syrian desert. It was originally flatter than it is now it has become warped slightly.
