These are the earliest forms of these new black clay and glaze tests, wonky bowls unfortunately, due to being trimmed too finely and positioned right next to the burners in the kiln. Excavated in 1897 at Hierakonpolis (Kom al-Ahmar), this life-size statue of the Egyptian Pharaoh Pepi I, is made from hammered copper sheets fastened together with rivet-like joins and is often described as the earliest known life-size metal statue.
