Rio Grande Southern 20 is a historic steam locomotive built in 1899 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works in New York. It originally went to work for the Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad. After the F&CC shut down in 1915, the 20 was sold to the Rio Grande Southern, remaining in service between Durango and Ridgeway, Colorado until the RGS was officially shut down in 1952. The sights and sounds of history came to life this past weekend in Durango as a cadre of dedicated Museum donors climbed aboard for a special excursion over the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNGRR), pulled by the Colorado Railroad Museum’s iconic Rio Grande Southern (RGS) steam locomotive No. 20.
