It's that time of year we've all been waiting for! The Red-tailed Hawks residing above Cornell University's main campus have begun building up their nest site across from Fernow Hall. Watch Big Red and Arthur bring in building materials and start forming the nest bowl in this clip from February 21. This is a welcome sign given reports from local birders that the hawks have been investigating alternate nest sites around campus. Time will tell if they'll choose to nest again at their favorite spot

Listen as a Pileated Woodpecker makes a grand entrance on the Cornell Lab FeederWatch Cam. After sampling the suet log, he gets some company when a Red-bellied Woodpecker swoops in to join the feast. At first, the Pileated seems unbothered, but as soon as the smaller woodpecker comes into view, the larger bird confidently asserts his place. Being the bigger bird often has its advantages at the feeder! Watch for them LIVE at AllAboutBirds.org/CornellFeeders | Bird Cams

Cornell Lab Bird Cams on Instagram: "We’re wrapping up our weekend of surprises with this visit from an unusually colored Hairy Woodpecker at the Cornell Lab FeederWatch Cam this past spring! What could explain the yellow-brown tinge in this female’s normally white feathers? The most likely explanation is feather staining, possibly from foraging or nesting near certain tree species. Tannins from black walnut trees, for example, can leave visible stains on feathers through regular contact. Watch
