How do you save seeds from biennial crops in cold climates? Biennials, such as Swiss chard, are crops that take two growing seasons to produce seeds. Typically these crops are left in the field to overwinter until spring when they resume growth. However, here at Heritage Farm (Zone 4b) it gets too cold to successfully overwinter biennials outdoors, so we dig them up and store them inside our root cellar until spring.
