When was the Humber Bridge built?

The road section of the Humber Bridge is made up of 124 steel boxes - each one is about 18 metres long and weighs about 140 tonnes – about twice as heavy as The Space Shuttle! The boxes were put together at an assembly yard just downstream from where the bridge was being built. Just east of the bridge, is a small jetty in the estuary – that’s where the assembly yard was. Once ready, the sections were then floated down the Humber on barges and lifted and fixed into place, as you can see on these
